1-54 MARRAKECH ART FAIR
Now in its third year, the 1-54 art fair is the ultimate weekend getaway for art lovers and collectors. This year it will represent more than 65 artists from 20 different countries and will include talks and round-tables hosted by the artists themselves at La Mamounia, ESAV and Le 18, was well as bespoke events at Musée d’Art Contemporain Africain Al Madeen (MACAAL), Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, Montresso* Art Foundation, Le 18, Comptoir des Mines Galerie and Institut Français. Here are some of our highlights.
El Fenn, Medina:
In collaboration with Loft Art Gallery, Casablanca we’re delighted to be featuring the ethereal creations of feted textile artist Amina Agueznay (Casablanca) alongside the evocative Moroccan landscapes and portraiture of photographer Hicham Benohoud (Marrakech).

Fondation Dar Bellarj, Medina
The archaeology of intimacy: memory and imagination of the photographic album
To celebrate 20 years of the Foundation Dar Bellarj, eleven Marrakech Medina women allowed the camera into their lives to take part in the intimate portrayal of their lives by artists Laila Hida, Hassan Hajjaj and Nour Eddine Tilsaghani.

Palais Bahia, Medina
One Square Meter Berber
Conceived by designers Mina Abouzahra and Nina Mohammad-Galbert, this unusual exhibition showcases the self-portraits of several female Moroccan weavers in carpet format, with assistance from Dutch designers Bertjan Pot, Wieki Somers, Amie Dicke and Mattijs van Bergen.

Riad Yima, Medina
Curated by artist and gallery owner Hassan Hajjaj this exhibition of works by self-taught photographer Ismail Zaidy uses Moroccan women’s traditional dress to challenge stereotypes of Moroccan culture, repositioning attire as a commentary on art, creativity and self-expression.

Throughout the Medina
Untitled: Seydou Keïta
A walkable, open-air exhibition featuring large scale photographic prints by Malian photographer Seydou Keïta displayed on the walls of the Medina. It is presented by MACAAL and the CAAC from the Pigozzi collection.

Comprehensive exhibition of works by Essaouria’s fabulous four – Art Naïf masters Mohamed Tabal, Ali Maimoun, Abdelmalek Berhiss and Regragui Bouslai.

A fascinating exhibition of works by five artists from the Congo River region: Hilaire Balu Kuyangiko, Vitshois Mwilambwe Bondo, Fransix Tenda Lomba, Serge Diakota Mabilama and Aristote Mago Betsaleel.

VOICE gallery, Sidi Ghanem (about 20 minutes by car)
An exhibition of works by conceptual artist Eric van Hove who re-imagines day-to-day aspects of modern life – a Mercedes grand taxi for example – and recrafts their components together with Moroccan artisans.
