10 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT EL FENN

Perhaps you’re planning a trip to Morocco. Or you follow us on Instagram. Maybe you’re looking for a boutique hotel in the Marrakech medina. Whatever the reason, we want you to get to know us a little more. So here are ten things to know about El Fenn…

1. El Fenn is housed in 12 interconnected riads – or traditional Moroccan courtyard homes. We have 5 different courtyards, all with their own unique character, colour schemes and planting.

2. We have three swimming pools, a spa, boutique and a 1300 square metre rooftop with a bar, restaurant & soaring views of Marrakech medina. 

3. All our interiors are handmade. Hundreds of master artisans have crafted carved plasterwork and cedarwood ceilings, tadelakt lime plaster, zellige tiling and leather floors.

4. Parts of our historic buildings date back to the nineteenth century & we’ve repaired and restored everything from door frames to roof tiles using local craftspeople in every aspect of the work.

5. We partner with local suppliers including Zahour Saffron & Farm Slimane to create seasonal food. 

6. Our art collection features around 100 works by upcoming artists, as well as established, European & African artists such as David Shrigley, Hassan Hajjaj and Leila Alaoui. 

7. We have a resident family of tortoises, we call them the Spice Girls. As well as two Siamese cats Otto & Emma.

8. All our spa products are organic and tap into the rich plantlife of Morocco. Think argan and prickly pear oils, extracts of rose, geranium and orange blossom.   

9. We celebrate creativity and craft in our boutique. We work with local designers and makers like Pottery Serghini and Sana’s Atelier to create small runs of fashion and homeware pieces.  

10. Our staff are drawn from the local community and some have been with us since we opened 20 years ago. We, as they say, are family.
