Food & Drink Hot Spots for 2024
The food & drink scene is always on the move here in Marrakech. Here’s our rundown of the latest places we’ve loved eating and drinking – from coffee with a pastry to work-of-art cocktails.
FOR COFFEE AND A LIGHT LUNCH – BLUE RIBBON
This new opening is the ultimate hybrid offering: one part bakery, another farm shop plus cafe – and soon there’ll be a cocktail bar and restaurant too. For now, stop by for delicious pastries and coffee before heading into the farmshop to buy some of the organic spices and produce they grow on their farm. The cafe also serves breakfast and light lunches. It’s well worth a stop if you’re shopping in Gueliz. @blueribbonmarrakech
FOR A LONG LUNCH OR DINNER – LE PETIT CORNICHON
This restaurant has been a key part of the city’s eating scene for a few years now – and deservedly so. Hang out with a local crowd in the restful dining room livened up by splashes of acid yellow and feast on starters including sea bream ceviche and shallot tarte tatin, and equally good main courses. The pasta with lobster and comte cheese is our stand-out. Desserts are great too. @legrandcornichon
FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART COCKTAILS – BAROMETRE
The Hadni brothers have been serving up expertly crafted cocktails in this buzzing basement bar since 2016. Alongside the classics, there’s a menu of cocktails-meets-works-of-art served in evermore ingenious ways. Our favourite? The ‘Marrakech Market’. A fusion of orange and cinnamon whisky with saffron syrup and Cointreau served in a smoked clay pot with a side of dates. @barometremarrakech
FOR LUNCH IN THE MEDINA – YAZEL
We love Yazel for a Middle Eastern meets Maroc lunch on the terrace which is perched high above one of the medina’s key shopping streets. Mains include kofte wraps and grilled chicken sandwiches but we always go for the mezze. Namely, the beetroot houmous and fatoush salad. We can’t get enough. There are also delicious juices. @yazelmarrakech
FOR DRINKS & DINNER IN A GARDEN – PETANQUE SOCIAL CLUB
Kamar Laftimi has developed many of Marrakech’s most buzzy restaurants – including Nomad and Le Jardin. His new place, Petanque Social Club in Gueliz is housed in a historic building with new interiors that tap into those bygone days with a twist of modern luxe. The garden is also a highlight. The petanque lawn has been replaced by a gorgeous terrace filled with ancient olives, wrought iron furniture and dripping with candlelight. @psc_marrakech
