El Fenn is the ultimate backdrop for a destination wedding

Andrea Naar Alba has created luxury Italian weddings for almost twenty years. But as more and more couples look for a twist on traditional, she explains why El Fenn is the place to create a new kind of wedding.

For almost twenty years, Andrea Naar Alba has created the ultimate in luxury Italian weddings everywhere from Lake Como to Venice. Her events are so bespoke, she works on just 12 a year. The Amalfi Coast, Tuscany and Sicily are among the other glamorous destinations she uses.

But now, Andrea and her team at Italian Weddings and Events have joined forces with Adelaide Colman of Knot So Ordinary, who specialises in destination weddings, to create something new. And they’ve chosen Morocco as the perfect place for couples who are looking for a fresh, modern and atmospheric place to marry.

‘More and more couples, particularly younger ones, want something a bit different to a huge white wedding now,’ says Andrea. ‘They don’t want to do things by the book with a traditional cake, a first dance and classic dress. Instead, they’re looking to create something that’s really personalised with a fashion feel and original touches.

‘For us, El Fenn is perfect. It’s got such an original style that it allows couples to really play with every element from what they wear to how the tables are styled and the kind of photography they create on the day.’

Andrea, Adelaide and the team recently visited us to do a stunning location shoot to capture their vision of how El Fenn could be used as a wedding destination.

‘You don’t want travelling abroad to end up a cliche or reductive of a culture,’ says Andrea. ‘But it’s also important for people to know where they are from the first minute. We wanted to tap into authentic Moroccan design and the beautiful local landscape to create something really original and play with a contemporary aesthetic set against traditional design, just as El Fenn does.

‘All the table decoration for instance was sourced from the hotel boutique and we added lots of colour because that’s what El Fenn is known for, as well as some playful touches.’

Milan-based White Pepper created a modern and contemporary look with dramatic cascades of flowers and renowned stylist Daniela Delia chose sculptural fashion by Antonio Grimaldi.

Wedding Photography at El Fenn

Photographer Alessandro Moggi, who specialises in fashion and architecture photography, shot this set of pictures and his aim was to use Marrakech’s stunning light to create something fresh.

‘So often now photography is flooded with light,’ says Alessandro. ‘And of course alot of wedding photography is about a very neutral palette.

‘But what’s really beautiful is the interplay between light and shadow at El Fenn. It allows you to create so many moods and looks. And the colour that’s saturated throughout the hotel on walls and in elements like stained glass means you get really original wedding images.

‘The other thing is that El Fenn is a constrained space because you’re within the four walls of the riad with no outside views to distract you so it feels very intimate. It’s paradise for a photographer.’

We love the vision that Andrea and her team have come up with. Are you feeling inspired? Find out more about weddings at El Fenn here or contact Italian Weddings and Events here.
